Ingredients
For the Cookies:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Maple Icing:

1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1-2 tablespoons milk
Directions
Preheat Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream Butter and Sugar:

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add Wet Ingredients:

Beat in the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a cohesive dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
Form Dough Balls:

Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets with enough space between them to allow for spreading during baking.
Bake:

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the cookies are lightly golden brown.
Cool:

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare Maple Icing:

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed to achieve the desired thickness for drizzling or spreading.
Ice Cookies:

Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle or spread the maple icing over the tops of the cookies.
Serving and Storage Tips
Serve at Room Temperature:

Allow the cookies to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture and flavor.
Presentation Matters:

Arrange the cookies on a decorative serving platter. Consider garnishing with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or extra maple icing.
Pair with a Beverage:

Enhance the enjoyment by pairing with a cup of hot coffee, tea, or milk.
Store in an Airtight Container:

To keep your cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
Layer with Parchment Paper:

If stacking the cookies, place a sheet of parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
Avoid Moisture:

Keep the cookies away from moisture to prevent them from becoming soggy.
Freeze for Extended Storage:

Freeze leftover cookies by placing them in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transferring them to a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be stored for up to 2-3 months.
Thaw Before Serving:

Thaw frozen cookies at room temperature for about 30 minutes or reheat in the oven at a low temperature for a few minutes.
Refresh Icing if Needed:

If the icing thickens, stir in a bit of milk until it reaches the desired consistency.
Enjoy Within a Few Days:

While they keep well for several days, enjoy the cookies within a few days of baking for optimal freshness and flavor.

Add chopped nuts such as pecans, walnuts, or almonds to the dough for extra crunch.
