Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (cold, cubed)
- 1/2 cup Ultramel
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk (if needed)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the cold butter and rub it into the flour using your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg and Ultramel.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently mix to form a soft dough. Add a little milk if the dough feels too dry.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it just a few times (don’t overwork it).
- Pat the dough down to about 2–3 cm thickness and cut into rounds or triangles.
- Place the scones on the prepared tray and brush the tops with a little milk or egg wash.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly and serve warm, optionally with butter or an extra drizzle of Ultramel.
