Ingredients
6 cups peeled, thinly sliced tart apples (about 6–8 Granny Smith)
⅓ cup packed dark brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup fresh orange juice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 box Snickerdoodle or vanilla cake mix
1½ sticks butter (¾ cup), sliced thin
2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
Spread apples evenly in dish. Sprinkle brown sugar, ¼ cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, and orange juice over apples.
Pour dry cake mix evenly over the top — do not mix.
Lay butter slices evenly across the entire surface.
Mix 2 tbsp sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon and sprinkle over butter and cake mix.
Bake 45–55 minutes until top is golden and apples are tender.
Let cool 10–15 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm.
