Another reason these bites remain popular is how easy they are to make. The meat mixture can be prepared ahead of time, making party prep stress-free. They also freeze beautifully, so you can assemble them in advance and bake straight from the freezer when guests arrive. Hanky Panky Bites are versatile too—you can make them mild or spicy depending on the sausage you choose, and even swap the bread for rye, pumpernickel, or baguette slices for variety.
These nostalgic little bites bring warmth, comfort, and old-school charm to any table. One batch is never enough, and once you serve them, people will always ask for the recipe.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork sausage (mild or hot)
1 lb processed cheese (Velveeta), cubed
1 loaf party rye bread or cocktail bread
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and sausage together until fully browned, breaking the meat apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
Lower the heat and add the cubed cheese to the skillet. Stir continuously until the cheese is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet. Spoon a generous amount of the meat and cheese mixture onto each slice.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the topping is hot and bubbly and the bread is lightly toasted.
Serve warm and enjoy.
