Kitchen Equipment You’ll Need

Cutting board and knife

Rolling pin

Mixing bowls

Measuring spoons

Shallow dish or pie plate

Skillet or frying pan

Spatula

Small bowl for cinnamon sugar

Tips for Success

Use soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread with crusts removed for easy rolling. Don’t overfill the rolls or they’ll burst when cooking. Seal the edge with a bit of pressure to keep them from unrolling. Cook over medium heat so the outside crisps without burning before the inside is warm.

Ingredients

8 slices sandwich bread, crusts removed

4 tablespoons cream cheese or Nutella

8 strawberries, sliced (or preferred fruit)

2 eggs

¼ cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Butter or oil for frying

Maple syrup or powdered sugar, for serving

Directions

Flatten each slice of bread using a rolling pin. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese or Nutella on each slice, then place a few slices of strawberry or filling of choice near one edge. Roll the bread tightly from the filling side to form a log. In a shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Dip each roll-up in the egg mixture, then place seam-side down in the skillet. Cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. Immediately roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Serve warm with syrup or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Additional Tips or Variations

Try banana slices with peanut butter for a fun twist. For a savory version, use scrambled eggs and cheese inside. Use flavored cream cheese or jams to change up the taste. Add a dash of nutmeg or orange zest to the egg mixture for extra depth. Serve with fresh fruit or whipped cream for a brunch-worthy treat.
