Baked Shrimp in Garlic Butter Sauce
This baked shrimp dish combines succulent shrimp with a rich, flavorful garlic butter sauce for an impressive yet easy meal. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s perfect for both weeknight dinners and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds large shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined, tails on
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 6-8 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup white wine (or chicken broth)
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Lemon wedges, for serving
- French bread or crusty baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and place them in a large mixing bowl. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Toss to coat evenly.
- In a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the shrimp in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches). Cook for about 1 minute per side, just until they begin to turn pink. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the white wine (or chicken broth), lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and dried oregano. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet, tossing to coat with the sauce. Sprinkle with half of the chopped parsley.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are fully cooked through and pink.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with the remaining parsley and lemon wedges.
- Serve immediately with crusty bread to soak up the delicious garlic butter sauce.
Tips
- For extra flavor, add 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce before baking.
- Make sure not to overcook the shrimp – they will continue cooking slightly after being removed from the oven.
- If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer everything to a baking dish before placing in the oven.
- For a spicier version, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, or a simple green salad.
